A college program offers aid to foster youth moving onto college
There is an educational support program for college students in the Northstate, helping students who are in foster care or former foster youth. Many of whom may face challenges transitioning into adulthood.
Shasta College Inspiring and Fostering Independence (SCI*FI) is a program that supports foster youth who are graduating from high school and moving onto college.
There are around 80-100 students in the program. The program is the second-largest program statewide, with Los Angelos leading as the first.
There are about 30 community colleges that have similar programs. Recently, they had at least eight of their foster youth graduate in June.
