The Need is Real. Foster Children deserve chance at forever homes

November was Adoption Awareness Month, but this problem does not begin on Nov. 1, and it does not end Nov. 30. 3,275 days. That’s how many days 17-year-old Bryan recently spent in the child welfare system. Imagine seeing eight birthdays go by or completing nearly seven years of school with sporadic encouragement along the way from people who may care but aren’t your biological family. That’s basically a lifetime this young man has lived without the stable foundation many of us are so used to having in our lives.

The good news is Bryan was just officially adopted.

While that’s a silver lining, the reality of this situation is that he shouldn’t have had to wait nearly a decade for a forever family. This isn’t ideal and quite frankly, it isn’t acceptable…
