Blankets make warm gifts for Kansas foster families
Saint Francis Ministries ordered 1,300 roll-up travel blankets for foster and kinship families, but the problem was how to get them to the families.
“We thought it would be a good wrap-around community event,” Vicki Cain said.
Saint Francis Ministries looks after about half of the 7,000 children in Kansas foster care. Kinship families are relatives, such as grandparents or aunts and uncles, taking care of children in the foster child system.
The first problem was where to have the blankets shipped. The supplier wanted a loading dock, and while Saint Francis has offices across Kansas, it does not have a loading dock.
Great Plains Manufacturing, which participates in projects with Saint Francis throughout the year, stepped up and offered its dock Thursday afternoon, Cain said.
“The next issue is, what do we do with these boxes?” she said…
