Lonely Children’s Fund – How to Help

It’s the time of year when people turn their attention more completely to others, and more specifically to give rather than receive.

Once more this year, the Mooresville Tribune joins the initiative to bring Christmas to children in foster care in Iredell County [North Carolina].

The fund began in 1960 and provides for children in foster care to have holiday gifts and money to cover needs through the year. Any donation has a lasting impact on the lives of these children.

This year there are 173 children in foster care in the community. More than two-thirds of them have been placed in foster and group homes. The remaining third are residing in relative placements.

And, as stated, the impact is dramatic — especially on things most families take for granted. It makes it possible to celebrate birthdays. To buy school pictures. Take field trips. Pay for graduation. It allows everyone to have the things that one generally gives to a child without really thinking twice about it. But for some of these children, these things are not a given.

Now the organization, through the Lonely Children’s Fund, is trying to give them some semblance of normalcy. And they are asking for all of our help in doing so.
