Another NY Tragedy. The number of children in foster care far exceeds homes available to them
Right now there are 252 children in foster care in Albany County, and just 30 certified foster homes.
In Schenectady County there are 227 children in foster care, and 64 certified foster homes.
In Rensselaer County, there are 69 children in foster care, and 31 certified foster homes.
In Saratoga County, there are 67 children in foster care, and 19 certified foster homes.
Montgomery County has 50 children in foster care, and 6 certified foster care homes.
And there are 34 children in foster care in Warren County and 23 certified foster homes, with 6 more in training to be certified and licensed in March.
I spoke with the Albany County Commissioner of the Department for Children, Youth and Families, Moira Manning, about the drastic difference in the number of children in foster care across our area compared to the number of certified foster homes.
