‘We all matter’: 10-year-old works to serve foster children

MARTINSBURG, W.VA— When Aryonna Martin and her mother were escorted through the mountains of War, West Virginia, to deliver supplies to a 15-year-old who had lost almost everything in a fire, tears began to fall down her face.

But those sad tears soon turned to happy tears for the 10-year-old who holds the title of Little Miss United States when she met Curtis and provided him with all the necessities he needed to start a new school year.

Curtis, a 15-year-old who lost both parents and lived with his grandparents in an area that remains affected by damage leftover from floods in southern West Virginia, wanted to know everything about this pageant queen who had come to visit him.

He even asked her, “So, what are you going to do with your life? Beauty pageants?”

Martin laughed as she told him there was more to her than a crown and sash.
